Preservation Pittsburgh supports the concept of a comprehensive effort to revitalize the existing downtown retail core. Such an approach can be key to the preservation of the downtown's extensive stock of architecturally significant buildings. This approach also capitalizes on some of Pittsburgh's greatest assets: the city's distinctive architectural identity and the unique urban character created by more than two centuries of incremental change. Both a "top down" (urban renewal) and a "bottom up" (Main Street model*) approach have their place in this revitalization effort and we continue to watch closely as recommendations of the Plan C Task Force are put into place.
